Waddy’s the oldest cat in the world, and going global!
MBTC-11-03-13- Wadsworth the Cat. Bedford. Wadsworth possibly the UK's oldest cat aged 27.
A former pub cat has become a famous feline this week after news spread that he had reached the ripe old age of 27.
After the Times & Citizen broke the news that Wadsworth (also known as Waddy) had just celebrated his 27th birthday, his story was covered by news organisations including the BBC, Metro and Huffington Post.
And Guinness World Records have also invited his owner Ann Munday to apply for Waddy to be crowned the oldest cat in the world, as their current world record holder is only 24.
Ann, who lives in Wentworth Drive, Bedford said: “It was a bit overwhelming really because we didn’t realise that Waddy could actually be the oldest cat.
“He’s been very naughty this week. I cooked some bacon for my son’s breakfast and he was sitting there squealing away, so I cooked two more rashers for him.”
She added: “I had my grandchildren in the car and the eldest said: ‘Shh grandma’s on the radio’.
“The youngest said: ‘Don’t be silly, she can’t be in two places at once.’”
Waddy is an internet sensation too. Footage taken by reporter Hayley O’Keeffe which appeared on our website has gathered nearly 11,000 views on YouTube.
