Village youth club is saved from closure
Community
A GROUP of residents have saved a youth club from closure by taking over the running of the club after support from the Youth Service was lost.
Helped by the Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (BPHA), the group has become known as the Shortstown Youth Club Management Committee, and is now applying to various funding bodies to continue to provide activities and facilities at the club.
The group, which has been closed since the middle of February, re-opened on Wednesday.
Community development officer at BPHA Bob Bridle said: “The youth club was very popular among young people in Shortstown so the loss of the club was a real blow.
“I think it’s great to see the community coming together like this to solve this problem and working hard to keep such a valuable provision going.
“The club currently has enough funds to last until the end of the summer but we are hopeful that by then we will have secured the funding needed to continue to offer this.”
The club is based at Shortstown Village Hall and runs every Wednesday between 5pm and 7.30pm.
