Toad Hall Nursery Colmworth marked one year since the children’s nursery Puddleducks joined the Toad Hall Nursery Group.

The birthday celebration on Tuesday, February 2, ran throughout the day and featured a guest visit from mascot Toad, while Mayor Dave Hodgson attended to join the tea party.

There was a fancy dress competition, as well as traditional party games and a great time was had by all the children and their families.

Mr Hodgson said: “It was great to see such a range of imaginative activities taking place in the nursery and a brilliant focus on healthy eating for the children.”

The Colmworth nursery had lots to celebrate over the last year. In June 2015 Toad Hall received the Silver Food for Life Catering Mark, from the Soil Association, for providing nutritious meals, prepared with fresh, organic, locally sourced and farm assured produce for the children, and it has also had its menus approved by the Children’s Food Trust.

Emma Parker, nursery manager Toad Hall Colmworth, said: “Nutrition is really important to us and we reinforce this with our children and families through our Cook and Grow initiative. We involve all of our children and families in growing a range of fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers in our allotment, which is then prepared and cooked by our children. In Summer 2015 we achieved Level 3 in the RHS School Gardening Awards, for our allotment and dedication to educating children about the natural world.

“In addition to this we have been lucky enough to win an award at the Nursery World Awards, as Charlotte Eavis Wix, regional operations manager of Toad Hall Colmworth won an award for Regional Operations Manager of the Year 2015.”
