VIDEO: Bomb squad carry out controlled explosion
A controlled explosion of a grenade was caught on camera after it was handed in at the police station yesterday afternoon.
Bomb disposal experts detonated the device on a field near Beds Police HQ at around 11.30am today - almost 19 hours since it was discovered.
Yesterday afternoon the unexploded hand grenade prompted police to close a large part of Bedford town centre.

It is understood it had been discovered buried elsewhere in town and handed in at the cop shop by a member of the public.
Officers are now asking anyone who discovers historic devices suspected to be an explosive to call police immediately - and not to disturb the object.
