Valerie's pond stories cause a splash
Garden tales catch publisher's imagination
A Stopsley grandmother has realised her dream of publishing the bed-time stories she told to her grandsons when they were children.
Filbert And Friends is the creation of Valerie Few, 66, of Hitchin Road, and features 10 short stories about Filbert the frog and his garden companions, including newts, centipedes and ladybirds.
Valerie, a mother of two and grandmother of six, spent most of her working life in Luton's hat trade, and it was her grandsons' fascination with her garden pond that inspired her to come up with the tales.
She said: 'They're ever such simple little stories, and everyone has meaning that a child can understand. They're not Aesop's Fables, but they're about how what you do can affect others.'
