UKIP selects candidate for Bedford and Kempston constitutency for 2015 General Election

A business consultant and former pupil of Pilgrim Grammar School in Bedford has been selected as the UKIP candidate for the Bedford and Kempston constitutency.

The Bedfordhire Branch of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) has announced that Charlie Smith has been elected as its Parliamentary candidate for the 2015 General Election.

The hustings in Putnoe also featured UKIP’s newly elected MEP Patrick O’Flynn, who praised everyone for their hard work in topping the poll with over 28% of the Bedford vote in

the European election.

Mr Smith was born in Kempston and attended Pilgrim Grammar School in Bedford.

Until 1993 he was the owner/director of a number of small businesses, including engineering, recycling and construction.

He now works as a business consultant and residential property landlord.

Mr Smith became a member of The Federation of Small Businesses in 1994, and currently holds the office of Regional Chairman for Beds, Cambs, and Herts, which has around 7,500 members.

He has represented the FSB at meetings both in the House of Commons and in the European Parliament in Brussels.

He also sits on the Business Executive Engagement Group of the South East Midlands Local Economic Partnership (SEMLEP), which takes in the Bedford and Kempston constituency.
