Travellers set up at Elstow park and ride

A group of travellers have set up home at Elstow park and ride this week.

Visitors to Bedford using the park and ride service have complained to Bedford Borough Council, which runs the facility and the authority is working to evict them.

A motorist, who the Times & Citizen has agreed not to name, complained to the council after parking there on Thursday morning.

They said: “There’s even one of those tents that people take to pop concerts. I feel that I don’t want to come into Bedford again until this has been resolved.”

Elstow park and ride runs bus connections into Bedford town centre from Monday to Saturday.

A spokesman for Bedford Borough Council, said: “The council is aware of an unauthorised encampment at the Park and Ride in Elstow.

“Encampments such as these are unacceptable and the council is working with the police, to take all necessary legal steps to remove the encampment as a matter of urgency.”
