Training will be free if you care to come along

New programme launched by Central Bedfordshire Council and NHS Bedfordshire

Carers looking for help on how to best support the person they look after can sign up to a new free training programme.

Central Bedfordshire Council and NHS Bedfordshire, together with local voluntary and community organisations, are providing the national Caring With Confidence programme in Dunstable and South Beds.

Caring With Confidence is a free programme of flexible sessions for unpaid carers designed to make a positive difference to their lives and that of the person they care for.

The programme offers training to help carers support friends, family or neighbours who are ill, frail, disabled or have mental health or substance misuse problems.

There are three ways to get involved – group sessions alongside other carers from the local community, independent home sessions using flexible self-study workbooks or through online sessions designed to be completed at a pace suitable for the carer.

Each group session gives the opportunity to develop skills, get advice and information, talk and share experiences with others.

Caring With Confidence is completely free to carers aged 18 and over.

Support is also available towards the cost of alternative care arrangements and travel to the training sessions.

Carers who think they could benefit from attending one of Caring With Confidence sessions can find out more by visiting www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.

You can also call 01582 818644 or email jo.lay@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk.
