The demolition of Bedford’s town hall office block building is scheduled to be finished by the end of this month - now you can keep an eye on the final days of the building’s life with a dedicated webcam.

The town hall office block is making way for a brand new public square, which will link the River Great Ouse with St Paul’s Square, as part of the multi-million pound riverside development.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The demolition of the town hall office block and its replacement with a new riverside public square is a major development for the town centre. We want everyone to have the chance to see this major change for their town centre happening for themselves. That’s why we’ve made these live images available for all to see online.

“This is the first step in a riverside regeneration scheme which will bring millions of pounds of investment and new jobs to Bedford, as well as giving people more reasons to come and enjoy the town centre. These include the return of town centre cinema, new riverside restaurants and more, in addition to the new public space.”

Richard Overton, Managing Director of local company Regenology Ltd, who installed the cameras, said: “It’s great to see technology that we developed at our office in Bedford being used on such exciting local projects. We hope local residents will enjoy following the progress of the building work, and are really looking forward to creating some great films later in the year.”

The redevelopment of the riverside area includes a new public square, linking the town centre with the river and a new public footbridge. The wider scheme also includes the reintroduction of a town centre cinema, new opportunities for riverside dining or relaxing, new jobs and a major boost for visitor numbers.

Later this year, the pictures taken will be used to create time lapse sequences, showing the progress made.
