Town centre in power blow-out

HUNDREDS of people and many businesses in the town centre was left without power earlier today.

Power went down in Mill Street, the High Street and Dame Alice Street at just gone 11am today.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said: “Engineers worked as quickly as safely possible to restore power supplies to 1,110 customers in the Dame Alice Street, The Broadway, High Street and Mill Street area of Bedford, following a fault on our high voltage network at 11.17am. “Supplies were restored to 803 customers at 11.42 am, 112 customers at 12.18pm and the final 203 customers at 12.36pm.

“We appreciate how difficult it is to be without electricity and apologise to all those affected.”
