Time to sign up for Active Kids

Active Kids is back at Sainsbury’s in Clapham Road, Bedford, where customers can collect vouchers in store May 5 to help registered schools, groups and clubs receive equipment and help.

The scheme, which is celebrating its 10th birthday, is supported by double Paralympic gold medal-winner Ellie Simmonds, world record breaking sprinter Jonnie Peacock and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, all committed to encouraging children to eat well, move well and live well.

New cooking equipment has been added to the collection of items available to collect in 2015, and the popular Cooking and Nutrition Toolkits, endorsed by the British Nutrition Foundation, and recipe cards will keep children excited about cooking.

Active Kids Ambassador Ellie Simmonds said: “I’ve been a Sainsbury’s Active Kids ambassador for five years now and seen the amazing things the scheme has achieved. I’m looking forward to inspiring even more children this year to live their lives to the full.

“It’s important that sport and activity is part of a wider healthy lifestyle, and the new emphasis on cooking and nutrition will help bring this to life in the classroom.”

Richard Higson, store manager, said: “The Active Kids scheme is a brilliant way for our colleagues to get involved with schools, groups and clubs in our local area. We love visiting local organisations and seeing the benefits the equipment and experiences have brought to the children.”

There are now 50 registered to the Active Kids scheme in Bedford, including Mark Rutherford, Edith Cavell Lower and Clapham pre-School thanks to store customers. Since 2005, the scheme has donated £887,417 to organisations in Bedford.
