Detectives investigating the murder of Kempston grandfather Sharif Demirsay in May have arrested another person in connection with the case.

The Major Crime Unit arrested the 17-year-old man at Hartwell Drive in Kempston this morning (Thursday, December 5) on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary at Sharif’s house in Vineyard Way.

The teenager is in custody at Greyfriars police station in Bedford.

Four other teenagers have already been charged with murder and will stand trial in February at Luton Crown Court.

A police spokeswoman said: “This investigation is moving quickly towards a court trial and because of this people may have assumed we’ve finished enquiries.

“However, the team are still actively following up evidence and we know there are still, even now, people who haven’t told us everything they know.

“I would really rather those people came and knocked on our door and talked to us before we knock on their door.”

The Major Crime Unit can be contacted directly at their base on 01480 422791.
