Tea and tunes in the park

Annual event returns to Bedford Park with variety of fun activities

The popular Tea And Tunes afternoon returns to Bedford Park this month in a bid to help people get out and discover a bit of park life.

The event, which runs from 1.30-4pm on June 19, is not to be missed – with a variety of fun activities, music of the 1950s and 60s to tap your feet to, and the opportunity to meet new people.

Hosted during national Love Parks Week, the afternoon raises awareness of Bedford's parks and green spaces and encourages people to enjoy what these fantastic places have to offer, in addition to providing an opportunity to learn more about the services and activities available to Bedford residents over the age of 50.

The event is organised by Bedford Borough Council with the support of

Bedford Guild House and Trading Standards, and attended by more than 25 other local organisations such as Age Concern, Sight Concern, BPHA and social services, to name a few.

The event is free and refreshments will be provided by Bedford Guild House.

A range of activities and entertainment includes music, taster sessions for dance, fitness and massage, along with nature walks, bowling, belly dancing, keep fit, tai chi and an afternoon tea dance.

The Friends Of Bedford Park are also interested in seeing pictures and hearing your memories of the park, so take along any photographs taken in Bedford Park before 1985.

The pictures, which will be used for a special display, will be scanned while you wait and returned to you.

Anona Hoyle, of the community welfare team, said: "It's fantastic that the park's team arranges this event for older local people.

"This unmissable afternoon is an extremely enjoyable and a popular event. Now in its third year, it has captured the imagination and is now embroidered into the glitz of the council's calendar of events."

This weekend, join a wildlife walk at The Forest Of Marston Vale which kicks off at 8am on Saturday.

Join expert, friendly forest volunteers to discover the birds and other wildlife in the country park. Booking in advance is required but pay the leader on the day. Take binoculars and wear suitable clothing and footwear. Cost is 3 for adults, 2 for children and concessions. Call 01234 767037 to book.

Also visit the Forest Centre Farmers' Market on Sunday, a great chance to buy a huge variety of local produce.
