Taxi drivers are being to warned to secure their cars as a targeted crime wave sweeps Queen’s Park.

Ward councillors Mohammad Yasin and Mohammed Masud said they have been approached by more than 20 drivers who have had cash boxes and PDAs stolen in the past two weeks.

Cllr Yasin said: “Taxi drivers are really suffering as a result of these crimes. When their shattered car windows are being repaired they cannot work. “We urge the police to take swift action to catch the perpetrators and ask the public to report any suspicious activity immediately.”

Last month, police and neighbourhood watch distributed 1,300 leaflets in Queen’s Park warning people to secure their vehicles.

Cllr Masud said: “Despite the leaflets, incidents are still occurring. We need to tackle this together.”
