As the Tour de France competitors pedalled through the English countryside, a team of shop workers had their own version of a road race for charity.

Staff at the Body Shop, in Silver Street, cycled the distance between Bedford
and Brighton - but without leaving the shop floor.

The team rode an exercise bike in half-hour shifts until they had completed 125 miles.

The event was held to raise money and awareness for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a
charity the shop has regularly supported.

Manager Amanda Clarke said: “What an amazing day! We raised £400 for the charity.

“I’m so proud of my team, and I’d like to thank our lovely customers for their kind generosity and encouragement.”

The bike, supplied by LA Fitness, was placed in the front of the store to
encourage donations.
