Stars come out for hard man convict

Gala event will highlight Bronson case

Canmpaigners aiming to secure the release of one of the UK's most notorious convicts – Luton's Charles Bronson – are holding a variety gala to bring public attention to the injustice they say is being done to him.

Actor Ray Winstone, DJs Kate Lawler and Fran Cosgrove and former cannabis smuggler Howard 'Mr Nice' Marks are among the celebrities billed to turn out for the event being held on Sunday, November 19, in Derby.

Bronson is currently serving a life sentence after holding a teacher hostage in prison for 44 hours in 1999.

But his supporters point out that the prison inmate has never killed anyone.

He has spent 31 out of his 53 years in prison – 28 of them in solitary confinement.

They are hoping to attract 1,800 guests to their variety gala.

It will feature a number of musicians including Doctor and the Medics, Swellbellies, The Brew, Neverland and Joe Longthorne.

Stand-up comedian Adrian Doughty will be among those appearing on stage, alongside gangster-turned-author Dave Courtney, boxing promoter Joe Pyle, legendary fighter Roy 'Pretty Boy' Shaw and hooligan-turned-author Cass Pennant.

An auction of Savile Row outfits will also be held.

The gala event will kick off with a champagne reception at 2pm.Tickets for the show cost 20.
