Two pupils from Marston Vale Middle School have been chosen to attend a prestigious sports programme in September.

Olivia Cunningham and Emilliee Hay, from year 8, have been selected to attend the Talent Inspiration Programme in Manchester where they will attend workshops, observe high-level competition and take part in practical sessions designed to challenge and test their determination and desire to achieve in sport.

Olivia’s mum Tracey Cunnigham said: “It’s amazing. I’m very proud of her. She absolutely loves sport. Even from a young age she’s always taken part in it. She’s won over 30 medals - if she could go to a school that only taught English, maths and sport she’d be there. Mums can go too so I’m looking forward to a weekend in Manchester!”

During the event the girls will also hear elite athletes stories, try out new sports and test their skills.

Emilliee’s mother Sam added: “Both girls have worked hard. I’s a great recognition to them and the school.”

The girls’ PE Teacher at Marston Vale Lauren Williams said: “I nominated them because they’re gifted and talented. It’s a really good testament to them both, I know they are very excited they’ve got this award.”
