Speed limits lowered after council review

Pressure from residents and councillors has seen speed limits lowered in four different areas of Bedford Borough.
Speed limits will be reduced immedietly in West End, Little Staughton, Milton Road, Clapham, Bedford Road, Stagsden and Colesden Road, Wilden after complaints of dangerous driving and speeding.
The move is part of a wider consultation lead by Dave Hodgson, the Mayor of Bedford.
He said: “When I speak to local residents one of the most common causes of concern is still speeding, particularly in rural and residential areas. That is why we first launched the speed limit review back in 2011.
“At the time I promised an ongoing commitment to tackle speeding and that is why I have continued to speak to local residents, as well as councillors and parish councils, in an effort to curb excessive speed on our roads.
“Speed limits will be lowered on 4 roads, consultation is already underway on a further four sites and others roads are likely to follow in the near future.”
He added: “Lowering speed limits, in conjunction with the introduction of ‘safe zone’ average speed cameras in known hot-spots, are a clear demonstration of our commitment to making our roads safer for all.”
Consultation is still underway in other areas of the borough too.
North End, Stagsden, Lower Farm Road, Bromham, the B660 Kimbolton Road, Wilden and the road from Cople to Cardington are all currently under review.
