Guardsman in overseas championship

A soldier from Dunstable competed in a gruelling competition which sees skiers pushed to the limits.

Guardsman Joe Robinson travelled to Austria with 70 other entrants in the Army Telemark Skiing Championships.

"I underestimated just how much effort it requires. I was absolutely exhausted," said Guardsman Robinson, a member of Nijmegen Company, Grenadier Guards.

Telemark racing is growing within the military and is the only ski technique to combine downhill, jumping and cross-country elements.

"It was a brilliant experience to start a new sport and speak to the top skiers," said the guardsman, who has been in the Army for almost a year.
