Site of first gay reception to become flats?
THE site of Bedford’s first ever gay wedding reception could become flats if a planning application goes ahead.
On February 27 Bedford Borough Council’s planning committee will discuss an application to convert The Clarence Hotel, in St Johns Street, Bedford into 14 residential flats and a retail unit.
In December 2005 the venue hit the headlines when it hosted Bedford’s first ever same sex wedding reception after civil partnerships were legalised in the UK.
The application is recommended for consent and involves demolishing the existing buildings to redevelop the area.
