The Silent Faces of Bedford is the title for this weekend’s guided walk.
An excellent little book was published earlier this year by Stuart Antrobus, a retired tour guide, which recounts the stories behind the various statues and memorials that are to be found around the town
If you want to capture some of those statues in a few hours, you could join this latest guided walk which leaves the War Memorial opposite Rothsay Road at 11am on Sunday, morning.
The figures may be unable to speak and tell their own story but a member of Bedford Association of Tour Guides who will lead the walk will bring the figures to life.
An association spokesman said: “We cannot guarantee that the statues will climb down from their pedestals, but those local urchins who once tempted Bunyan “to come down ‘ere’’, could claim to be responsible for awakening this genuine interest in some of our most fascinating local features. Did you know which sculptor used to walk around London with a green parrot on his shoulder?”
Pre booking is still essential so call 01234 718112 to reserve a place.
