Young leader to march on St George's Day

A Luton Scout leader has been chosen to take part in a prestigious St George's Day Parade in Windsor.

Claire Dixon, 20, who is a young leader with the 16th Someries Group, is the first Luton Scout to be selected for the colour party at the prestigious national parade of Scouts at Windsor Castle on Sunday April 25.

She applied to be selected for the parade after seeing the party advertised in the back of a Scouting magazine.

Claire had to attend a selection day where she had to march, do some of the drills and read.

She said: "I was really surprised when I was selected.

"We train for a weekend each month in Nottingham where the colour party have been learning to march properly, do halts, wheels, counter marches, slow marches and carry flags.

"We have to get it spot on so all the training is understandable. It's a good laugh too though because it's relaxed and there is a lot of banter."
