School is out for half-term

So make the most of it and enjoy some great Halloween themed events for all the family

Autumn half-term week is here, and with it the chance for families to get out and about and enjoy some leisure time together.

On Saturday (October 25), the RSPB in Sandy hosts a Feed The Birds Day, a fun event with a range of activities including birdcake-making, guided walks and bird ringing (weather permitting). Entry is free from 10am to 4pm with a small charge for some activities.

Next weekend the centre hosts a Halloween special Things That Go Bump event from 5pmto 7pm. Dare to take a woodland walk to discover the myths and legends of Halloween. Children must be accompanied and visitors are advised to take a torch. Booking is essential on 01767 680541. Cost is 3 for adults ( RSPB members 2), children 2 (RSPB Wildlife Explorers 1).

This Saturday also marks the start of Halloween activities at Wild Britain in Wilden which offers a whole week of ghoulish fun. Find plenty of spooky surprises or join in pumpkin carving or the graveyard spider hunt. Meet some obscure mini-beasts or solve the black cat

treasure trail.

It's open daily from 10am to 5pm. Call 01234 772770 or visit www.wild-britain.co.uk

Alternatively, opt for a ghost train ride through the wicked woods to Thurleigh Farm Centre. Once there, children can carve pumpkins in the Deadly Dungeon and experience spooky fun during the day, or 'Fright Nights' rides after dark which include a fancy dress competition and short fireworks finale.

The centre is open until 8pm. For further details, call 01234 771597 or visit www.thurleighfarmcentre.co.uk

Also on Saturday is a flying owl display by torchlight at the Bird of Prey Centre, based at the Shuttleworth Collection in Old Warden. The

centre will be decorated with lights and pumpkins with a competition for the best dressed children's entry.

The cost includes a light supper at 20 for adults, 10 children. Pre-booking is necessary on 01767 627527 or via www.shuttleworth.org/birdofprey

On Friday, October 31, Halloween arrives at the Glenn Miller Museum at Clapham, with ghost walks around the old wartime airfield of

Twinwood.

The family stroll will take you into the restored control tower where your guide will tell you about the history of the airfield and its 'new occupants' who wander the rooms, mostly unseen, playing tricks on the visitors.

Entry, including a family tour, is 5 for adults, 3children. A family ticket for two adults and up to four children is 15.

Call 01923 282725, email info@twinwoodevents.com or visit www.twinwoodevents.com
