Samuel Whitbread breaks records

Staff and pupils delighted with best ever GCSE results

Spirits were high at an upper school as a steady stream of pupils arrived to collect their GCSE results.

More than 400 youngsters picked up their results at Samuel Whitbread Community College in Clifton on Tuesday, and proud teachers were delighted to discover that the school had broken all of its records.

Nearly three quarters of its students achieved five A* to C grades and 240 students achieved the government target of 5 A* to Cs including English and maths.

All of the core subjects of maths, English, science and religious education saw big rises.

Some 92 per cent of candidates who took the health and social care double award GCSE achieved A* to C grades, while the figures for sociology and geography were 88 per cent and 77 per cent respectively.

School principal Rob Robson said: "I am very pleased with the results and the school has taken another big jump forward."
