A demolition worker was trapped when part the roof collapsed at the three-storey old Town Hall annexe in Bedford today, Wednesday, April 23.
Anglia Two air ambulance was scrambled to the town centre, which was sealed off at Paul’s Square by police dealing with the emergency.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service used a hydraulic platform and rescue cage to reach the man, where they put him in a neck brace, immobilised him and lowered him to the ground.
A spokesman for the fire service said the man was in a “confined space” trapped by rubble from the roof.
After assessment by air ambulance medics, a road ambulance took him to Bedford Hospital.
His injures are not believed to be life threatening.
Police tweeted that the town centre area was closed while the officers dealt with the incident in Horne Lane.
The old Town Hall is being demolised to make way for a brand new leisure complex.
