Rockabilly fantastic
Tom Allalone and the 78s
The thing about music is that it's all about what's in fashion.
And sometimes that means that truly excellent things fall out of favour when all you want to do is shout "Don't stop doing this, any of you - it's ace!"
For example, you don't get many bands nowadays who could describe as "impeccably dressed". Additionally, all too few acts could be described as having a "swing" to their sound, or of having any actual bona fide rockabilly influence.
And why, oh why, do we so rarely read reviews that state: "One part Eddie Cochran, one part Chet Baker, a whole heap of fun"?
The reason we raise these rather salient points is that Tom Allalone and the 78s are playing Esquires on Saturday, May 23, and we have taken rather a shine to them.
And while the studio output we have heard has been enough to turn our collective musical heads, they must be rather nifty live too.
After all, they are headlining a very, very strong bill, which also includes Amy and the Integrals, The Friday Nights, The Delaneys and Hannah Estrada.
Entry is just 5 so get down to Esquires on May 23 from 8pm.
