Council chiefs decided lap dancing, stripping and other forms of sexual entertainment were not appropriate in the borough.

The policy stopped short of banning sex clubs outright, as officers said this could leave the council open to legal challenges.

The family of a Bedford dad murdered in 1994 launched a fresh appeal to close Bedford’s only unsolved murder case.

Danny Ferguson was shot in the head on February 21 1994 at his home in Shakespeare Road, Bedford.

the appeal came after it was revealed Danny’s brain was kept by a London hospital for 19 years, and has since been returned to the family for burial.

We reported on the disappearance of teacher Leda Bolden who went missing from the family home in Bedford on Easter Sunday.

Initial searches failed to find her - but sadly her body was later discovered in the River Great Ouse.

Conservatives in Bedfordshire paid tribute to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher who died on April 8.

Mid Beds MP Nadine Dorries said: “For me she was the leader of my formative political years, it’s because of Margaret Thatcher that I am an MP and she influenced me more than anybody.”

A shopkeeper died following an assault in his Bedford shop.

Vairamuthu Thiyagarajah was 56 and sustained serious head injuries in the attack at MK Food and Wine in Elstow Road.

Thilak Mohan-Raj, 25, was convicted of his murder in October.
