A GADGET enthusiast says he has seen his bills go down by around £30 a month after trying out a new device.
Patrick Strauss, 40, has been trialling a new device, which provides a live feed of how much electricity you are using as you are using it.
The gadget is the brainchild of AlertMe, which is national company that provides energy monitors.
Patrick says he has seen his bills go down by between £30 and £40 a month by being more energy efficient and being able to detect what uses the most electricity.
The father-of-two, who lives in Dane Lane, Wilstead with his wife Trudie, said: “I’m not interested in technology for the sake of it, but I do like gadgets,.
“I first came across this business when I heard about their SmartMonitoring home security system, I really liked the idea of being able to check up on your home remotely.
“I registered with the website, and a while later they sent a generic email saying they were looking for families to trial a new device that could reduce your energy bills.
The new AlertMe kit has two parts. There is a box that connects to your computer. It collates all the information about how much electricity you are using and shows you via the internet. You can also access the information through your smart phone or iPad.
There is a device that clips onto your main power cables, which measures the stream of electricity going through them. The information is then sent to a colour display, which lights up as and when you use electricity.
Patrick added: “I really like this idea of being able to keep tabs of how much electricity you are using. You get your bill through every three months, but you never know what uses the most electricity or how much you are using.
