Red card for racism
MBTC- 06-02-12- Show racism the red card event with ex-professional footballers Luther Blissett and Paul Mortimer and MK Dons goalkeeper David Martin with pupils from Cauldwell Lower School. Borough Hall, Bedford.
THESE plucky children from Cauldwell Lower School braved the snowy weather to meet three footballing heroes on Monday.
The youngsters attended a special Show Racism The Red card event at Borough Hall and got to meet MK Dons goalkeeper Dave Martin and ex-professional footballers Luther Blissett and Paul Mortimer.
During the session the children listened to stories from the players and had the chance to pose them questions about racism.
Luther Blissett, who is famous for scoring a hatrick in his first England game in 1983, said: “The more fun you make it the more that they understand. It is our responsibilty to make sure the right message goes out because it’s not just about the football, it’s about the conduct of the players.”
The event marks the launch of a new programme funded by The Bedford Charity which will deliver a programme of anti-racism education and fun football sessions to local youngsters over the coming year.
