A record number of businesses registered in Bedford between January and June.
The first half of the year saw a record number of new company registrations in Bedford, according to figures in the latest Duport Business Confidence Report.
Research from Duport.co.uk reveals there were 819 new companies formed between January and June in Bedford - more than any half year in the history of the area, and an 11 per cent increase on the same period in 2012.
Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis commented: “The record-breaking number of company formations we are seeing is really positive news for the area.
“A rising number of company formations means more potential employment, as well as increased choice of goods and services for visitors to and residents of Bedford.”
The Duport report shows that company formation has been increasing during the first half of every year since 2009, suggesting business confidence is returning to the town as economic conditions improve.
Bedford BID, the umbrella organisation that promotes businesses in the town centre, welcomed the news.
Director Christina Rowe said: “Bedford is remaining buoyant and businesses are working together to make the town centre better for everyone
“This weekend for instance there is a food festival taking place in the town, which is bringing together retailers, restaurants and food producers to direct consumers into the town centre.”
