Two masked men have raided the post office in Silsoe.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a raid at a village Post Office on Tuesday, August 19 at about 4.50pm.
The incident happened at Silsoe Post Office in Newbury Court when two offenders entered the location.
One of the offenders approached the counter and demanded that the manager handed over cash which she refused to do. The offender attempted to put his hand through the security glass to grab a coin holder but the manager pulled this away from him. The offender then grabbed a number of charity boxes which were on the counter while the second offender stole cans of beer.
Both men then fled the Post Office and headed towards a nearby park before running across some allotments. It is then believed that the two offenders got into a white van – with writing along the side – which was parked in High Street and drove away.
Both offenders were white men, in their late teens or early 20s and wore balaclavas during the raid. One of the men removed his mask as they fled the area and witnesses reported that he had a Mohawk style hair cut with closely shave hair on the sides and a strip of hair running down the centre
Detective Constable Jason Wheeler, who is investigating the incident, is keen to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery and may have seen the offenders either before or after the attack.
DC Wheeler said: “I would ask anyone who may have witnessed or heard anything relating to this robbery to contact the police as soon as possible. These offenders have stolen cash, and have also taken two charity boxes. The Charity boxes have not been recovered and I would like to know if anyone has found these.”
