Protest over parking nightmare in Dunstable street

Petition for residents' parking scheme

Neighbours have mounted a protest petition over constant parking problems in a Dunstable street, where workers leave vehicles all day to dodge car park fees.

People living in Burr Street are urgently calling for a residents' parking scheme to be set up to stop the road being clogged up by thoughtless drivers.

The protestors say they can find themselves unable to park in their own street, and having to dig into their pockets to use a pay-and-display car park nearby.

Commuters are said to start arriving in Burr Street at 5.30am, Monday to Friday, using the road as a free car park.

Now protestors, who have previously called in vain for a residents' parking scheme to be launched, hope that the new Central Beds Council will take action.

Councillor David McVicar, who has special responsibilities for safer and stronger communities, said: "We have recently received a petition from Burr Street residents and have now started assessing all the options.

"Once all our findings have been collated, a report will be presented at a decision-making meeting to which the local councillors will be invited and interested members of the public will be able to attend.

"We will keep the lead petitioner and Burr Street residents informed of any developments with their petition."
