Pride in our gold medal Olympian
London 2012 Olympics. Etienne Stott celebrates winning Canoe Slalom C2 Mens Double gold medal (with Tim Baillie). August 2, 2012
Few have done more to raise the profile of Bedford than our latest Pride nominee Etienne Stott.
Together with team mate Time Baillie, Etienne brought an Olympic gold medal back to Bedford in the C2 canoe slalom.
The crowd on the day, cheering on the pair, included members of Bedford’s Viking Kayak Club and Scout leaders from the St Andrew’s troop which who Etienne first started kayaking.
The Olympian, who is a member of the Viking Kayak Club, said: “So many people that have been part of the journey were in the stand to witness it and that’s really what was so special.
“For it to culminate at that point it was very special for a lot of people. It seemed an absolutely amazing atmosphere in there.”
Etienne is nominated for an award in the Raising Profile Of The Town category, and there are nine other categories available.
So what are you waiting for? Who do you know that has made you feel proud to be from Bedfordshire?
From an excellent carer, to a child who has shown tremendous courage, we want to know the people who deserve to be shouted about.
All nominees are invited to a glitzy ceremony in November hosted by Eastenders star Nitin Gantra, who plays postman Masood in the hit soap.
