People from across the community honoured in the New Year’s List received their awards this week at a ceremony in Bedford.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis, made the presentations at the Harpur Suite on Monday, February 17, as well as commissioning cadets.

About 90 people attended the event including High Sheriff Deborah Inskip, Mayor Dave Hodgson and other dignitaries from across the county, military cadet leaders, and families of those awarded.

>> Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) were presented to:

Professor Helen Atkinson, from Cardington, who is chair of the Metals Processing and Head, Department of Engineering, University of Leicester, for services to Engineering and Education.

Professor Richard Parish, from Moggerhanger, lately chief executive, Royal Society for Public Health, for services to Public Health.

>> Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) were presented to:

Andrew Simons, Grade 7 Ministry of Defence, for services to Defence Information Capability, Ampthill.

>> Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE):

Hazel Phillips and Derek Phillips, foster carers from Flitwick, for services to children and families.
