A six-week public consultation launched this week into the proposed move of the Post Office in the town centre.
The Post Office is proposing to move the Bedford branch from its current location in Dane Street to a new-style branch with significantly extended opening hours for customers.
The proposed new location for the branch will be McColls Retail Group Ltd in Greenhill Street, near the bus station.
The move is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.
Post Office regional network manager for the South Julia Marwood said: “This branch is currently operated on our behalf by a temporary subpostmaster.
“Whilst this arrangement has enabled us to maintain access to Post Office services to our customers in the area, what we want for our customers in Bedford is a long-term sustainable solution for the provision of Post Office services and we are confident our proposal will enable us to do so.”
The consultation will close on November 26.
