Political chat for pupils from Baroness Young
Baroness Young visited Bedford Modern School last week to give sixth form students a taste of life in politics.
The peer met with politics students to talk about her role in the House of Lords, followed by a question and answer session about life in Westminster.
Stuart Baker, head of politics and senior sixth form teacher at Bedford Modern School, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”
Baroness Young’s visit was arranged through the national Peers In Schools programme which has been running since 2007.
The scheme has so far involved 50,000 young people . As a continuing outreach programme Peers In Schools sends members of the House Of Lords into schools and colleges across the country to give talks in support of the citizenship curriculum.
As part of the day
students quizzed Baroness Young on various aspects of the parliamentary process, bringing to life what they have been studying in their classes.
