Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was seriously injured in a road accident, in which a car left the scene.
The crash happened on Friday, August 15 at 8.09pm on the A421 road, eastbound, half a mile after the A6 entry slip road at Elstow.
It involved a black VW Lupo, the driver of which was removed from the vehicle by the fire service with a suspected serious back injury, and a silver Vauxhall Zafira containing four men, none of which were injured.
It is believed that shortly before the collision a third car, possible a dark coloured Audi, had been seen in the area driving erratically and the investigating officer, PC Mark Atkins, and is keen to trace this vehicle.
PC Atkins said: “When the emergency services arrived at the scene it was feared the driver of the Lupo had suffered a broken back. Luckily this was not the case and she is now recovering at home.
“This road is extremely busy and many motorists may have witnessed the collision but as yet they have not spoken with the police. It is believed the Audi may also have been involved in the collision but the driver did not stop.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision and can help piece together exactly what happened to come forward and assist this investigation.”
Anyone with information relating to this collision can contact PC Atkins, in confidence, at Bedfordshire Police on 101, or text information to 07786 200011.
