Perfect gifts for the perfect Mum

Visit the Tourist Informatin Centre for specialist gift ideas, theatre and day trips

Mothering Sunday occurs on the fourth Sunday in Lent, which this year falls on March 22.

It's traditionally the perfect excuse for spoiling your mum, making a fuss of her and showering her with gifts.

Alternatively, you could take her out to dinner or treat her to a theatre trip, with the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) your first port of call.

The centre is a booking agent for both the Royal & Derngate in Northampton and Milton Keynes Theatre (bookings taken Monday to

Friday only).

Available are theatre tokens which can be used at more than 230 venues nationwide, including London's West End.

And, speaking of London, why not treat mum to a day out shopping or sightseeing in the capital before the show?

Plan your travel by purchasing First Capital Connect's 'daysave' train ticket offer, which is ongoing at the TIC. Adult day returns cost just 14, children go for 2 each when accompanied by an adult.

For even better value, a group ticket is available for 35, covering up to four adults travelling together.

To complement this service is a one-day London Travelcard which can be used on the underground, local buses, mainline trains, trams and the Docklands Light Railway.

For central London, adult tickets cost 5.60 for Zones 1-4 (ideal for visiting Kew Gardens) at 6.30 each and Zones 1-6 (ideal for Hampton Court Palace) at 7.50 each. Up to four children under 11 can travel around London free of charge when accompanied by an adult, while 11 to 15-year-olds pay 2 each.

Popular excursions to the Ideal Home Show in London, from March 24-29 and April 1-4, are also being offered by Safford Coaches.

An entry-inclusive ticket costs 23 per adult, 22 for senior citizens and 11 for children. These can be booked at the TIC and make excellent gifts.

A superb range of gift ideas with a local flavour include unique jewellery by Gemma Clark of Bedford, or traditional Pavenham

rushwork flower pot, hat or bag.

Also available is an impressive selection of prints by a variety of local artists depicting picturesque scenes of the town's main

landmarks.

Included is a collection of stunning crystal items including perfume bottles, vases, handbags and clocks.

Other popular items include examples of Bedfordshire lace, such as bookmarks, trinket boxes and lace brooches.

Mum may also appreciate some delicious Bedfordshire honey produced locally at Bromham, and attractive jigsaw puzzles of views around Bedford, stylish silver-plated items such as luggage tags and ladies' purse flask depicting a group of swans.

Finally, if you still can't think of what to buy, how about some Bedford town centre shopping vouchers which can can be used at over 150

outlets.

So make a point of popping in to the TIC, you will be spoilt for choice.
