The body of an elderly woman in her 80s was recovered from the ornamental lake at Bedford Park yesterday morning.

Bedfordshire Police received reports of a body in the water at around 7.45am on Wednesday from a member of the public.

Police and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident and spent several hours at the scene. A section of Bedford Park was cordoned off while the body was recovered from the water.

A spokesman for Beds Police confirmed that it was a female in her 80s, and said they are not treating the incident as suspicious at this time.
