A set of First World War medals that were owned by a former Olympian are set to be sold at auction next month.

Auctioneer at W&H peacocks, in Newnham Street in Bedford, David Fletcher, will be selling the medals and other memorabilia that belonged to soldier George William Husdon at the auction on February 1.

Peacocks managed to get hold of the medals after a listener to Three Counties Radio phoned up during a regular slot with David, who is also an auctioneer on BBC2’s Flog It.

The tragic soldier had been a double medalist in the 1912 Olympic Games, but just two years later he lost his life after he was called up to serve during the First World War.
