Old primary school site could now house pensioners
Putnoe Lower school moved to new premises five years ago and the site has been empty ever since.
Now developers McCarthy and Stone have announced plans to build 34 retired living apartments and 54 assisted living flats for people needing extra care.
The proposals were exhibited to the public last week.

Hide AdAli Maruf, regional managing director for McCarthy Stone, said the exhibition was well attended.
He said: “The initial feedback received has welcomed the redevelopment of the site with specialist accommodation for people in later life.”
He added: “It is important that a community meets the housing needs of all its residents.
“This development would provide local older people with the opportunity to downsize while still remaining in the area, which will free up family homes for the younger generation.”
