An animal suport centre in Bedford will be closing at the end of July.
Rehoming Animal Telephone Centre (RATS) will be shutting its Greyfriars shop by the end of this month after being situated on the premises for 15 years since moving from the Harpur Centre.
The centre began with a small group of dedicated animal lovers who, via the telephone, put those who needed an animal rehomed in touch with those who wished to adopt.
Founder Linda Kendrick said: “We are all very sad. Customers have been saying ‘don’t go.’ We are closing for a number of reasons – we just can’t get reliable and dedicated staff volunteers to run the store. Also, in common with many in the town rates are high to run a shop.
“I want to thank all our customers, friends and volunteers both past and present for their loyal suport, and in particular, our shop manager Sheila Ansell – who along with everyone has been simply wonderful.”
RATS, which has played a part in rehoming thousands of dogs, cats, and small mammals since it began in 1984, is moving to a new shop in the Buntingford area where they have a kennel for their animals.
Dedicated to the last Linda said: “We still need to rehome two lovely rabbits, Storm and Luna before we close.” To adopt call 01234 357788.
