No cloud nine weddings for easyJet
Hopes for airborne nuptials are dashed
Cloud nine will not be the dream wedding venue for brides and grooms after "faceless bureaucrats" refused to allow pilots to act as registrars.
No-frills airline easyJet has been forced to shelve plans to host weddings in the air, after bosses at Luton Borough Council refused to grant permission for the ceremonies.
The Luton-based budget airline had asked the Town Hall for the nod to allow its pilots to be authorised to officiate special airborne nuptials.
But the local authority has said that the law renders it impossible.
A council spokesman said: "We have explained to easyJet that the current law does not permit a civil marriage or civil partnership taking place on board an aircraft.
"But we would be happy to consider licensing easyJet's ground facilities at Luton Airport."
EasyJet was miffed by the response.
A spokesman said: "We are very disappointed. Faceless bureaucrats in windowless offices have spoilt the dreams of many."
