New firm is set to combat crime

A former soldier and police officer has set up his own security company to combat the ‘growing’ problem of anti social behaviour and crime on our streets.
Pat Mills, who has served in the army as well as the police service, has set up the firm Proactive Response, which is made up of 15 ex-military personnel and already has two fully kitted-out 4x4 patrol vehicles.
Pat, 48, said: “We may well be a bit before our time, but I think people and businesses need us. The fact us we are in a triple-dip recession and crime levels are rising.
“And when crime is going to be higher they are taking resources away from the police. Don’t get me wrong, I think the police do an amazing job on the manpower and resources they have got, but at the moment it’s just not enough, and it’s just going to get worse.
“I think there is a real niche for this, there are security firms out there but in essence all it is two men sitting in a van too scared to get out if anything happens. All our staff will be fully trained and equipped to carry out citizen arrests until the police are able to arrive.”
It is initially targeting small businesses and groups including parish councils or neighbourhood watch schemes to band together to hire them. Depending on how many people are in the group it can cost as little as £2.50 a day each.
A spokesman for Beds Police said: “We always welcome increased awareness of security in general as there is much that residents and businesses can do to prevent themselves becoming victims of burglaries by taking a few simple, low-cost precautions. We already work with other firms that protect industrial and commercial premises, which have high value property and look forward to having the same beneficial relationship with this firm. “
