A new monthly market is set to launch this weekend in a bid to bring the community together.

New group Bedford Crafts, Produce and a Cuppa will be holding the new market at Church Lance Community Centre on Saturday, March 2 between 9am and 2pm.

Small businesses, crafters and producers in the Church Lane area got together to create the friendly market, which will have a cafe and child-friendly activities, run by the traders for the traders, and the community.

A spokesman for the group said: “The small businesses involved all hand craft or home produce their items within Bedfordshire.

“The cafe will be a quiet restful area for people to meet have a cuppa, cake and chat.”

The event is being opened by Councillor Sylvia Gillard.

Founding members of the group Su Quinn and Zoe Haines said: “We hope this new event will give people a chance to try something new and see how unique and cost effective a local specialist market can be.

“Our aim was to make it somewhere people would want to come, not just to shop, but to be part of the community.

“We want to encourage all involved to become like extended family. It’s ambitious but we hope to make it work.”

The launch of Bedford Crafts, Produce & A Cuppa kicks off from 9am and will offer a free cuppa, raffle and Easter egg hunt.
