Jon Kutner has been hosting his Sunday night quiz in various venues around Bedford notching up an amazing 1,257 weeks - with the anniversary bringing it to 1,258.

Jon said: “There has been a quiz every week bar nine, when the venue was shut or there was an event on.

“I’ve done approximately 122,000 miles travel to host it and in all that time there have only been 37 I haven’t personally hosted because of holiday, or illness, but a quiz still happened.

“It’s a labour of love!”

Music is certainly Jon’s passion as he still buys every single chart entry. In fact, he has almost every hit single ever made in the format it was originally issued. He needs just 271 songs to make a complete catalogue.

The quiz rounds are wide-ranging with a “guess the year” round, film, album title or musical, and while the prize for winning is a drink voucher, Jon also offers a spot prize of £300 if a team spots the A-side of a record when the B-side is played.

Quiz regular, Mark Smith, from Ampthill, said: “You never know what mixed bag Jon will produce on the night, but it’s guaranteed to be entertaining and fun, with a bit of controversy thrown in.

“In the 25 years, Jon has played over 125,000 tunes – some classic, some diabolical – and your idea of which is which depends on whether you like Black Sabbath or The Wombles.”

He added: “It’s not all about the prizes though, it’s about the good music, challenging questions and most of all enjoying a Sunday evening with friends rather than having to think about returning to work the next day.

“Just as the music varies, so does the attendees – teachers, solicitors, civil servants, the list goes on but nothing counts on the night except your knowledge in music.”

During the 25 years, Jon has hosted at various Bedford venues including The George and Dragon, The Park, The Anchor and The King’s Arms. It’s current home is The Pheasant in Brickhill.

The anniversary quiz will be on Sunday at the Bedford and County Golf Club, Green Lane, Clapham.
