The family of murdered shopkeeper Vairamuthu Thiyagarajah have spoke out following the conviction of his murderer.
Vairamuthu, affectionately known as Appa, was killed in the flat above his shop MK Food and Wine in Elstow Road after by Thalik Mohan-Raj after he stole the previous day’s takings of £2,500.
Mohan Raj was found guilty by a jury at Luton Crown Court today.
The family has spoken out about the horrific murder describing the trial as a “torture chamber” for the whole family.
In a statement they said: ““The tragic loss of our dear father has left an unfillable void in all our lives,
“There is an emptiness that has shrouded our lives and the gloom that has encircled us since April we feel will never fully lift.
“The last ten days in court has only helped to bring back the horrific memories of those fateful days in April and it has felt like being in a torture chamber for all the family.
“Hearing the evidence of those witnesses and experts and imagining the pain our father suffered was an overwhelmingly agonising experience for the entire family.
“The loss we have suffered can never be put into words, the pain we have endured can never be explained or understood.
“Our father was not just a father to us; he was a towering figure who guided us in every step of the way. With every bit that we have achieved in our lives, his guidance and mentoring is all there to be seen.
“Even though he is no longer with us, we will continue in the path that he had shown and make him proud. Appa – we promise you this and rest peacefully.
“Appa was a loveable person who cherished and valued everything in life, never took anything for granted.
“He worked very hard to get where he did in his life and he believed that you will never achieve anything in life without hard work. “He lived true to these values till the day he left us. He was adored by whoever he met, held in the very highest regard and respected widely.
“He will be sorely missed and Appa no-one will ever fill your void for you are irreplaceable.
“You have taught us so much, and you have given us so much to cherish and to take forward with us in to the rest of our lives.
“Appa, justice has now finally been served, you may rest in peace now and we will go on to fulfil those dreams of yours that remain unfulfilled following your sudden, unexpected and tragic loss.
“We love and miss you forever.”
