A former church organist who is suffering from cancer has been given a life-changing stairlift - in recognition of her community work.
Lorna Button, who lives in Putnoe, was left upset and with nowhere to turn after failing to qualify for a Disabled Facilities Grant or other financial help.
So to recognise her good works - at Putnoe Heights Church providing music and as a Samaritans volunteer- EMS Stairlifts stepped in to help out as part of their Stairlift Angels scheme.
Director of the firm Thomas Sergeant said: “Lorna has given so much to her local community, supporting others over the years.
“It is such a pleasure to be able to help her, it only seems right that she should get something back after all her years of giving.
“We hope she enjoys the benefits of the stairlift for many years to come.”
Gifted musician Lorna, who slept downstairs in her armchair before the stairlift was installed, met MP for Bedford and Kempston Richard Fuller last week to unveil the new machinery.
Mr Fuller said: “Stairlift Angels is a fantastic initiative. It is heartwarming to know there are still companies prepared to go out of their way to make generous awards like this.”
