MP dons his running shoes once again to help hospice and veterans charity

The 60-year-old is running the race on Sunday, April 24, to raise funds for Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice and Combat Stress, the veterans mental health charity.

The MP for North East Bedfordshire said: “I have taken part in nine London Marathons and this year I will again be raising awareness and funds for St John’s Hospice.”

Mr Burt has been involved with the hospice since coming to Bedfordshire in 2001 and ran the London Marathon for St John’s in 2008. He has helped support initiatives such as the launch of the Hospice at Home service and key fundraising challenges.

He said: “My chosen charity is very close to my heart and I hope to raise as much money as possible to help them continue with the incredible work that they do.

“I am passionate about supporting the hospice because of the dedication from its staff and volunteers, to make sure that each and every patient receives the care and support they need in the way they choose.”

Fay Boissieux, fundraiser at St John’s Hospice said: “We’re delighted that St John’s is the charity that Alistair is supporting by running the London Marathon. It really helps us to continue giving care and support to patients both in our hospice and among the community.

“The money Alistair raises will go towards the provision of frontline services to help patients at St John’s Hospice.”
