MP challenges Chancellor
Investing more in local transport is an issue that was brought up by Mid Beds MP Nadine Dorries last week.
On Tuesday the Conservative MP Nadine Dorries challenged the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne to help her constituents by investing more in local transport.
Ms Dorries says she had many of her constituents contact her over the ever rising fuel costs, leaving some unable to run a car.
And she says she opposes the “enormous spending commitment” to complete a new high-speed rail line linking London with cities in the north
She said, “The Government is to invest £17billion in phase one of HS2, which will transport someone from London to Birmingham 20 minutes quicker. “Yet there are students in my constituency today who cannot accept their place at Bedford College because of the lack of a local transport network, and constituents who cannot accept offers of work because they cannot get to the train stations via a bus network.
“Would it not be a better use of that investment to put it into regional transport networks so that people can get to work and college?”
